data distribution RPWI


Onboard the next European mission to Jupiter and its moons, JUICE, the RPWI sensors will sample the thermal plasma, DC electric fields, electric and magnetic signals from radio, plasma waves and micrometeorite impacts, as well as monitor the spacecraft potential and integrated solar EUV flux. Organizational structure of the data processing and distribution for RPWI is shown in the Figure below. The processing pipeline, to be developed under supervision of the PI institute (IRFU), will take the L1b data (produced by SOC) and produce L2 and L3 data.

The role of the science teams responsible for different RPWI subsystems will be to develop/maintain the L2/3 processing software, maintain calibration files, and do validation of the L2/3 data for the public release.

The processing pipeline will be run at the RPWI Data Production Centre (DPC managed by IRFU in Uppsala, Sweden) utilizing the specific routines, calibration and caveat files for different subsystems. The data products, produced in the format which can be used for final archiving (to be agreed with ESA), will be delivered to the RPWI Data Distribution Centre (DDC, managed by CDPP in Toulouse, France) which will distribute the data to the RPWI CoIs during the proprietary period, provide data for public relation purposes upon ESA request, produce the QuickLook and other specific plots used for validation.

The CoIs responsible for data validation for each particular receiver (Archive scientists) will access the data and validation plots and validate the L2/L3 data products and produce caveat files (providing specific information on instrument performance, data interpretation issues, etc for specific time intervals), and initiate data re-processing by DPC if necessary.
